Using a unique blend of comic book theatre and traditional African storytelling, the play explores the realities of mining life, the challenges faced by miners, and the universal quest for a better life. The narrative follows the real-life story of Madlebe, whose almost superhuman hearing skills make him an invaluable asset in the deep, dangerous gold mines.

The Story

Undermined is an award-winning physical theatre play that tells a uniquely South African story through a vibrant, high-energy lens. With minimal props and maximum energy, the performers bring the world of the mines to life, exploring themes of hope, perseverance, and the idea that making money is only a means to an end, not the purpose of life itself.

“Rethink your evening plans. There’s a show that deserves your attention... takes physical theatre to new heights of creativity…spellbinding.” - Marilu Snyders, Whats On In Cape Town
